White Clouds of Frustration
As we were barreling down the windy road of The Avenue of the Giants in Humbolt State Park (Redwoods), we started to notice a white cloud enveloping our ride. It was just a little smoke at first and so we decided to stop and check the engine before it got worse. We figured the engine was burning some water and knew that was probably not good. We were like monkeys trying to open a computer, so we decided to continue on after not fixing anything, and try to make it to Calistoga, CA. Well the white smoke continued to cloud the entire side of the road as we went zooming by, too ashamed to stop anywhere to take pictures of the massive redwood trees. They sure did look big from the RV.
We were the people you always see driving down the road with smoke covering their last mile. It is one thing if it was cold and we could hide the smoke a little, but it was temperate weather and there was no hiding this disgusting cloud. What is worse is we can’t go fast and outrun all the other cars to hide our embarrassment. All the other cars and trucks just pass us and look at us with distaste. We even pulled up to a traffic light and had to wait there for a few minutes. It was like the San Francisco fog just rolled in and covered that traffic stop.
So that is where we are at with the RV. It is currently in the shop and we are at yet another hotel. We hope to get the word back today that it is nothing big. We decided to make use of a rental car and drive around Sonoma and Napa Valley and eventually to San Francisco. We tried a few different wineries and then were treated with a private tour of the Napa Smith Brewery. The beer was spectacular and the Brewery was pretty cool. We happened to luck out with that tour. We stayed with my parent’s neighbor’s mom in Calistoga and she knows the brew master at Napa Smith. We definitely had to take her up on that offer of stopping by the brewery. Thanks Ellie and Don.
Cross your fingers and hope for the RV to give us a few more miles. We just need her to continue running for another three to four more months and about 18,000 miles. That’s doable, right?!

Now you boys better stay off of Castro St.
That is what I like about you guys – you always make the best of the somewhat difficult situations! Love ya ~ Aunt Martha
