    Fright Night in Rochester

The streets of Rochester, NY were as colorful as the people all three nights we went out on the town. You see, Halloween was this weekend and people took advantage of the great night by dressing up Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night. We were out at the local establishment when we started noticing scantly-clad women walk to another nearby bar. Nurses, maids, playboy bunnies, and school teachers were all braving the cold and heading to the already packed club. We didn’t dress up that first night, frankly, because we didn’t realize there would be a packed house. But, nonetheless, we followed our eyes and they led us to that same club all the beautiful babies were at now. There were some good costumes, but none of them really stood out that first night. We did the normal thing and stayed in one corner drinking by ourselves and staring at all the girls that weren’t talking to us. Pretty typical! Sean expected great things from us for inviting additional girls to his Friday night Halloween party after he left us early. But we didn’t come through and invited no one from that bar.

Friday was spent raking leaves and getting ready for the party at his house. Nolan for some reason was dead to the world and wasn’t functional until the afternoon. Sean and I drove around for a few hours getting supplies and finalizing our costumes. Well we ended up going with the greatest ’90s TV show, Saved By the Bell, as Zach (Aaron), Slater (Sean), Screech (Nate), and Mr. Belding (Nolan). We couldn’t find any girls willing to dress as Kelly, Jessie, or Lisa, so our costumes didn’t reach their full potential. I think we still rocked them though with great props such as a huge cell phone, dumbbell, and twirly hat. Sean had some good colleagues and friends at the party and everyone had some great costumes. The night took a turn for the worst when the beer pong table was brought out, or maybe it was the funnel. Things just get a little hazy when those two friends are involved. We ended up at the local hipster bar and the rest of the night is history.

Saturday was suppose to be recovery day but ended up being epic. We wanted to watch football so we strolled to a nearby wings restaurant. $15 Bud Lite rockets (120 oz) were simply awesome. How can you pass a deal like that up. Well, several of those down and guys being guys, we convinced Nolan to shave some of his hair off so he would actually look like Mr. Belding (Thanks Justin!). So we went back to the house, shaved Nolan’s head, changed to our Save By the Bell costumes and returned to the bar scene. We saw one other crew dressed as us, but we definitely had them beat in all categories. Other costumes included Greenman (my favorite), the Hulk, and some Flappers. We thought there was going to a riot at a nearby bar when the metal fence was pushed down and some guys were scrapping, coming away from that area with bloody faces. We even saw the Hulk get tased and watched him twitch around on the street. Overall, a very interesting night.

The next morning wasn’t as expected and we got to the Buffalo game later than we wanted. Nolan ended up shaving his hair into a mohawk and we were a mess. The stadium was very deceiving, almost looking like a high school / college stadium from the outside, but was pretty great on the inside. Heated seats and great fans changed my initial impression, however. Luckily the weather was perfect and the sun was shining because I’ve heard that it can get quite cold there in Buffalo. The game, itself, wasn’t great and the Texans handled the Bills pretty easily unfortunately for the fans.

See you later Rochester, it was good while it lasted. We enjoyed the great times we shared with all the ghouls, goblins and witches of Rochester!
